Since graduating in Textile Design from Central St. Martins school of Art, London, in 1991, Sam Hughes has worked designing printed fabrics both freelance and running her own design studio. She has worked as in-house designer for large London based fabric producers, freelance for fashion and furnishing design studios in London and New York and also run her own design studio selling fashion prints to major retailers in the U.K, Europe and the U.S.
In 2005 she began to use her collection of vintage fabrics to start a lamp shade and lighting business. Since the launch sam hughes lighting has grown steadily and become a busy business establishing a base of customers who look for interesting and beautiful items for their homes. She endeavours to create original high quality products and provide excellent customer service.
Vintage lamp shades are all hand made from vintage collectable fabrics, sourced from markets and vintage shops. The stands are made from a chrome upright with a hand turned and laquered wooden ash base. Each lamp is individual and the shades are all limited edition small runs, changing as fabric stock changes. In 2011 she launched her own range of prints on shades incorporating four designs inspired by her own original textile designs and vintage pieces of crockery and homewares - Dandy Pop, Coffee Pot, Lilly and Corona are available in four colourways each.
